A study of more than 150,000 drivers in Germany may have to answer. The business consultancy NAFI did a poll for Capital Investor, a weekly finance publication, to study the driving habits of men and women. Here are some of the things they found.

• 25 percent of women polled were willing to let a friend driver her car. The number fell to 16 percent for men.
• In a household with a married couple that has two cars, the man is more likely to commandeer the vehicle that is worth the most.
• Only 2 percent of the women surveyed would consider purchasing a car that’s worth more than $78,600. More than 5 percent of men would make the same consideration.
• 46 percent of the men polled drive between 7,460 and 18,640 miles each year while about 60 percent of the women drive less than 7,460 miles each year.

Does Car Color Choice from Your Mercedes-Benz Dealers Make a Difference?

Did you know that the color car you choose when shopping at your Mercedes-Benz dealers could say a lot about your personality? According to a study conducted in Bandon, Oregon earlier this year, the color car you choose is like a “rolling psychological profile.”

The study involved 2,000 American car owners. Here are some of the study’s findings:

Silver – If you tend to choose a silver car, you are probably even-tempered. You are not quick to anger and you generally don’t let too many things bother you.

Bright Colors (Red, Orange, Yellow) – People who chose these colors tend to have extreme mood swings. One minute they are happy-go-lucky, the next minute they are angry and ready to punch someone.

Black – Car buyers who typically choose black generally have few mood swings, but they are more somber than buyers who choose other colors.

The CNW Marketing research firm conducted the study by asking people to describe the way they generally feel towards life. Researchers then found out what color car they drove and made connections based on those findings. Your used Pa auto dealers want to know if you have thought about how much money you’re losing by sitting in traffic each morning on your way to work and each evening on your way home. Several metropolitan cities have done studies to see how much commuters are spending just to get from home to work and back home again. The Origin of Your Buick Used Cars, Part 3

Have you ever wondered about the beginning of the company that created all the Buick used cars on the road today? This is part three of the early days of the David Buick story.

After Durant came back from the New York Auto Show with more than 1,100 orders for Buick vehicles, the two leased a factor and began production. They moved the factory from Flint to Jackson, but Durant was raising money to build a huge factory on the north side of Flint. As a result, he was able to persuade many prominent businessmen to move their operations to the area. Charles Mott was one of them. Before he moved to Flint, he owned an axle-building business in New York.

The Buick Manufacturing Company built 750 Buicks in 1905. By the end of 1906, they built 1,400. And the next year when all Buick-related manufacturing operations were moved to Flint, the automaker was able to churn out more than 4,600 vehicles. During this time, Buick also made a name for itself on the racing circuit. Durant told Bob Burman, a member of the Buick racing team, to send back any parts that failed during a race so the engineers could improve upon them. From that, a slogan was born – “When better cars are built, Buick will build them.” By 1908, Buick was the second largest automaker in the United States.

From there, through stock handlings and business deals, Buick became a part of General Motors. Other changes took place, but Buick continued to make the same quality vehicle that it was known for. PA Dealers Remember David Buick, Part 2

On Monday’s post for PA dealers, we left you hanging. We were discussing David Buick and how he turned his talents and little business knowledge into what it is today. Without him, who knows where the Buick PA dealers or any others would be today?

Where it went from there is complicated. In 1903, just months after Buick’s company went bankrupt, two brothers from the wealthy Briscoe family provided some capital for him to get started again. Before Buick made a profit from this, he used up all of this money, too. The Briscoe brothers unloaded the Buick Manufacturing Company to a local entrepreneur – James Whiting – of Flint Wagon Works. Within a year, Buick created its second car. But again, debt abounded and the Whiting family looked for a buyer for the company.

The man who helped David Buick become a major automaker was William Crapo Durant of Durant-Dort Carriage Company. He didn’t like cars, but he knew a good investment when he saw it. He loved how the Buick he drove for two months could “climb hills and run through mud like no other car made.” As such, six weeks after investing in the company, he went to the New York Auto Show and returned to Flint, Michigan with more than 1,000 orders for Buick cars. This is when Buick began major production and started turning a profit.

The next time you visit one of the Buick auto dealers near you, think about the history of the brand. Buick auto dealers are the result of one man who moved to Detroit, Michigan at the age of two when his parents emigrated to the United States from Scotland in 1856.

David Buick left school at the age of 14 or 15 to work for a company that specialized in plumbing goods. He and a partner took the company over when it ran into trouble about 12 years later. This is when he began working on innovations that would serve him so well in the auto industry. In fact, he created a method for enameling cast iron tubs that is still in use today. As a result of his ideas and his partner’s business mind, the new plumbing company became very successful.

David Buick eventually became interested in the internal combustion engine. He experimented with them and spent much of his time studying them. As a result of his newfound interest, his partner grew impatient with him and they eventually parted ways and sold the company. This gave Buick the money he needed to study his new interest full-time. In 1899, he started the Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company to market engines for agricultural purposes. Soon after, he began creating complete cars with one of these engines installed. By 1902, he spent all of the money he acquired from selling the plumbing business and had nothing to show for it besides a single car.

The Attention Assist System is a system of sensors that detects a variety of data to help the driver stay safe behind the wheel. The Attention Assist System detects driver habits, road conditions, vehicle speed and pedal operations. The computer then continuously analyzes the data to make sure the driver is alert at all times.

This would certainly come in handy for me. While I was driving home from a road trip recently, I drove all night save for a couple half-hour naps along the way. But I knew I was dozing off while driving on the highway. But if I had the Attention Assist System, it would’ve alerted me every time my driving habits were abnormal or less than attentive.

According to the researchers at Mercedes-Benz, a driver’s reaction time is cut in half after four hours of continuous driving. That means you are doubling your risk of accident. Unfortunately, you have a responsibility to other drivers so you should always be as alert as possible when you’re driving on the roads.
