One of the growing trends happening as a result of gas prices is the fact that there are many more people riding their bikes. I haven’t seen too many where I live, but the news reports and the media say it’s true.
Unfortunately, this means an increased chance for accidents because many drivers aren’t accustomed to looking for bikes on the road. But drivers aren’t the only culprit in this situation. Bike riders aren’t exempt from the rules of the road simply because they’re not in a gasoline-powered vehicle. So whether you’re a bike rider or a driver, don’t forget these basic rules of the road to help ensure everyone’s safety:
• Stop at stop signs and red lights. Make sure the way is clear before proceeding through the intersection.
• Go the right way on one-way streets.
• Look for others on the roads and be courteous.
